When we talk of pregnancy outcome, there are two parts to this wonderful biologic event: a safe mother and a healthy baby. Often the wellness of the mother and the baby are interlinked but it is not a rule.
In over 85% of all pregnancies, the result is a safe and healthy mom and child, and these are referred to as low-risk pregnancies. In about 15%, there will be certain complications that would threaten to compromise the outcome for the mother, baby, or both.
About half of this high-risk pregnancies can be identified early in the pregnancy, another half later in pregnancy while a small percentage may not be identified at all.
At the Fetal Clinic, we diligently look for identifiable and preventable issues concerning your particular pregnancy and discuss these issues with your obstetrician so that the teams that are taking care of you and your baby are in sync. We allow adequate time for each appointment such that you will have plenty of time to discuss your concerns with us and get clinical guidance. We will also discuss with your obstetrician any issues identified both in person and through a referral letter so that everyone caring for your pregnancy are on the same page.
We believe that accurate identification of the risk factors operating in each pregnancy and taking appropriate specific steps would help improve the outcome of your pregnancy.
